Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be actively involved with Campus Ministry programming or a member of Campus Ministry Leadership to attend?

The retreat is open to all male undergraduate students.

What do I need to pack?

Clothing essentials - heavier jacket, rain jacket, 2-3 warm layers- jackets, sweaters, fleeces, 2 long sleeve t-shirts, hat and gloves, warm comfortable shoes for the campsite , warm, durable shoes for hiking, Jeans or sweats, pairs of wool socks (preferably thinner wool socks for hiking)

Sleeping Essentials - pillow, warm sleepwear, , sleeping bag and foam pad (to sleep on- please ask us for one if you do not own a sleeping bag and/or foam pad), any medications or hygiene supplies Hiking Essentials - a day bag (backpack, etc.) to carry lunch in (you will be hiking with this), 2-3 water bottles that are filled, Snacks – trail mix, etc.

Do I need a tent/sleeping bag/hiking gear for the retreat?

Tents are provided. We have additional camping gear, such as sleeping bags, foam pads, etc. for all participants as needed.

No one else I know is attending the Wilderness Retreat. Will I have the same experience as a participant even if I don’t know anyone there?

Yes! Many participants come into our retreats not knowing anyone prior to the weekend, and leave having built deep connections with those who they have not previously had relationships with. It is a great way to meet new people and form new friendships!

I want to come on the Wilderness Retreat, but I’m nervous I have too much work to do over the weekend and won’t be able to manage both.

Because the Wilderness Retreat is only a one-night retreat, we will depart from campus early Saturday morning and return on Sunday afternoon. This leaves plenty of time for completing homework and other responsibilities before the retreat on Friday and after our return on Sunday!

Should I prepare anything beforehand to bring on the retreat/is there anything I need besides what is on the packing list provided?

No, there is nothing else that is needed for you to bring or prepare for the retreat besides what is on the packing list that we send out for participants.
